Watch Dave Grohl’s Mom Embarrass Him With Middle School Report Card on “Colbert”

In help of her new book From Cradle to Stage: Stories From the Moms Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars, Virginia Hanlon Grohl and her son Dave Grohl appeared on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.” In the course of the lovely interview, Mrs. Grohl shares an extraordinary picture of her son at a tender age, and Colbert reads Dave’s sixth quality report card out loud while he grows increasingly uncomfortable. Somewhere else, Dave tells some formative tales about his childhood, and his mom talks about their partnership in the wake of Kurt Cobain’s loss of life. In addition, Dave Grohl joined the Preservation Corridor Jazz Band (who have been sitting down in with “Colbert” residence band Jon Batiste and Stay Human) to conduct “Santiago.” Watch it all go down beneath.

From Cradle to Stage—which characteristics Virginia Hanlon Grohl’s interviews with the moms of popular musicians together with Dr. Dre, Amy Winehouse, Haim, and Michael Stipe—is out now. For additional insight into Dave Grohl’s childhood, revisit a clip of him reacting to his teenage rock band.
