History & Headliners of Vans Warped Tour 2016
For over 20 years, The Vans Warped Tour has remained the longest-running concert tour in the country. The tour will stop in 41 cities this year, beginning in mid-June in Dallas, TX and closing out in Portland, OR in early August.
The Warped Tour was conceived in 1995, thanks to Kevin Lyman, with the help of Warp Magazine and Creative Artists Agency. Exclusively featuring punk and alternative acts, Vans shoe company became a sponsor in 1996 and the rest is history.
You can bet a festival with a legacy like this has many traditions. First, is the legendary “BBQ Band,” which is exactly what it sounds like. The BBQ Band has to grill out after each show for the bands and crew, in exchange for a spot in the lineup. The lucky one this year is indie rock band Reckless Serenade from upstate New York. Another famous tradition is the Ernie Ball: Battle of the Bands. Each year, a contest is held in the corresponding cities for unsigned bands to compete to play in the tour. The event also partners with multiple charities and organizations, including To Write Love On Her Arms and the Farm Animal Rights Movement.
The 2016 headliners range from veterans Sum 41 and Good Charlotte, to newcomers Sleeping With Sirens. Be forewarned that the lineup differs from city to city. However, each venue plays host to a wide variety of genres. The summer concert series features electro duo 3OH!3, ska band Less Than Jake and even rapper Waka Flocka Flame on a few dates. Not to mention hardcore metal bands Atreyu, Bullet for My Valentine and Motionless in White.
