With advancements in music technology and tools for music production become more and more accessible to aspiring artists of all ages, it has become increasingly common to discover talented artists of diverse ethnicities emerging from all around the globe. IMLAY might not be a household name just yet, but the man considered by many to be the hottest talent emerging from the Eastern Hemisphere has his original productions and eclectic style on full display with his Origin EP out now.
The three track offering is the much anticipated debut EP from the South Korean starlet. Track titles “Zanzan,” “Bird,” and “Shurai (High),” are appropriately abstract, leaving the listener expecting one thing but being pleasantly surprised after first listen. The sounds and elements in each individual production are more or less completely different from each other in style but the entire EP features a healthy dose of IMLAY’s deft touch and intoxicating flair. With an attention-to-detail that would rival those of his most senior peers, IMLAY’s Origin EP shows off a structural complexity that one wouldn’t expect from such a young artist.
The 21-year old’s talent is no joke, with several of his native country’s biggest promoters and management groups (SM Entertainment) expressing interest in his beatmaking prowess. With previous credited work on BoA and Beenzino’s recently released “No Matter What” and an official remix + an opening set at K-pop superstar Jonghyun’s release party for “She Is” earlier this year, IMLAY is catching the ears and hearts of electronic fans not just in South Korea, but around the world.
