Leon Bridges is the new face of soul music, as his songs are a taste of what music was like back in the 1950’s. 2015 has been a huge year for Bridges, from one of his singles “Coming Home” used for the Apple’s iPhone 6 commercials, to performing on Saturday Night Live, and now being nominated for best R&B album of the year in the 2016 Grammy.
At the age of 26 Bridges started his career by rapping eventually realizing that he was not good and so he turned to soul music as was able to create singles such as “River” and “Better Man”. He is being compared to artist like the great Sam Cooke and Otis Redding for his lyrics. Bridges released his first album Coming Home in June of 2015 and his album has been nothing short of spectacular. Throughout the album Bridges takes us through a journey of the past of the days of Sam Cooke as his lyrics are carefully crafted to remind us all of what soul music once was 60 years ago.
Future looks bright and promising for Bridges as more people are starting to appreciate his work. From performing at small venues in his hometown of Fort Worth,Texas to now having his album being nominated at the Grammy’s. Leon is evidence that talent can come from anywhere.
