Y.D.A Drops New Single ‘Hopeful’ – Interview Below!
Y.D.A. Yusuf Alamutu is an R&B Artist from Boston. Although making just to be goofy became a hobby for him during his senior year in high school, after the initial reception of his first few tracks, he soon realized that R&B music was his passion. His new single “Hopeful” drops today! Rare Norm caught up with Yusuf to ask some very important questions about himself and his music.
If you could pick anyone from history to be stuck on a elevator for 4 hours with, who would you pick? Why?
I would say Martin Luther King just so I and shake his hand and thank him for what he has done to better American and the world.
What would be hard for you, to tell someone you love them , or that you do not love them back?
It would be hard for me to tell someone I don’t love them back because I’ll feel so sad. I’ve had that happen to me before but I lied instead of saying I don’t love them. I try not to hurt people’s feelings.
How long have you been making music?
I’ve been making music since senior year of High School
Can you describe the time when you first realized that creating music was something you absolutely had to do?
When people started singing my song. I made a remix to “Snapbacks and tattoos” and named it “Beanies and Tattoos” and people from school will sing it in the hallway and it would make my day. They even wanted me to perform it in school shows. It was supposed to be something fun and goofy but it made me happy knowing people liked it.
Who are your favorite influences musically? What’s your favorite song you’ve ever created?
My favorite influences musically are Micheal Jackson, R. Kelly, Tank, Boyz 2 Men, Chris Brown, Trey Songz and many more. I don’t really have a favorite song because I believe every new song I create is my best work. I always progress and I’m constantly working on new music and new sound. But I’ll have to say “It’s on me” because that’s everyone’s favorite song of mine and it’s just a great song. People from my school (Umass Lowell) sing it all the time. It’s a blessing.
Using just 3-4 adjectives, how would you describe your music/ sound? What elements make your sound unique?
I would describe my music/sound as exciting, creative, fun, and lively. The elements that make me sound unique are my voice, the beats I choose and the way I write.
How is your personality reflected in your music? What motivates you to keep making music?
My personality definitely reflects in my music. I sing about girls a lot because we R&B singers love them a lot and can’t get enough of them. Whether it’s love or sex or break ups. But I also sing having fun/partying and everyday life situation like being from the hood and the living status. The love I get just motivates me and the fact that I keep coming up with creating ideas and turning them into new sounds is just dope.
Where do you see yourself in 3-5 years? (Career, music, touring, shows, etc.)
I see myself with a buzz and touring. Still creating new sounds that is now reaching different parts of the world. I see myself striving to be the best/#1 artist. I see myself collaborating with different artist; new and old.
What’s the best advice you ever had about how to be more creative?
No one has really given me any great ideas on how to be more creative. I pretty much taught myself and I keep on getting better at being more creative. I also get influenced by different music I listen to.
Where can the people find you? (Social media, website, etc)
