Art 3 weeks ago Share Tweet Pin Share dEEP Architects recently completed construction of a sprawling new art institution situated on the Yanshan Mountains near Beijing and Chengde, China. Named Hilltop Gallery, the sloping facade of the building was inspired by the surrounding terrain. Moreover, the establishment spans 2,600-square meters for ample exhibition floor space, cultural projects, dining, and a reception hall. The eastern portion of the gallery’s bottom floor features an interactive audio-visual room and theater. A cafe with an outdoor terrace for sweeping views of the mountainous region is located to the north. In the western area, a concrete structure welcomes gallerygoers to step inside and outside of the establishment coupled with a bamboo boardwalk leading to the roof and an additional platform to the east. Lastly, the southern section boasts a multifunctional ballroom that offers unrivaled views of the Great Wall’s Jinshanling segment. The architects note that the gallery was entirely built using “localized material and construction make such a building belong to the digital era without losing the charm of traditional Chinese architecture.” View the Hilltop Gallery in the slideshow above and head over to dEEP Architects’ website to see more projects.
