Hollywood Hills House by Tighe Architecture

Los Angeles-based design studio Tighe Architecture was forced to consider the plot’s geography when designing this house in Hollywood Hills. Situated on a hillside, the building is designed in a sculptural wedge-shape, as the studio explains: “The distinct form of the building optimizes airflow, natural light and sun protection.”
Another consideration for the house is its environmental impact, with sustainable strategies including the use of photovoltaics for power and solar hydronic system for heating water used. The building’s lower level is constructed from concrete walls and wooden touches — including the main entrance — while the first level is wrapped in glass and the top-level is finished in a plaster designed to mimic concrete.
The house’s sleeping spaces — a master bedroom and two smaller room — are found on the top floor, with all of the public spaces on the first floor. The lower floor is kept for functional rooms, including a laundry room, studio space and music studio. The rear of the house features a swimming pool, complete with underwater windows looking into the music studio.
