Rick Owens Retrospective Opens at Barneys New York

Over the weekend, Barneys New York launched Rick Owens‘ “Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman” retrospective at its Madison Avenue flagship. This particular location will be the only venue in New York to showcase the exhibit.

“Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman” takes you on a journey through Rick Owens’ celebrated career, ultimately exploring his evolution as an artist. The retrospective features land art installations, pieces from his fashion archives, film, graphics, and more.

Barneys’ creative director Matthew Mazzucca partnered with Owens to curate the event, which includes more than 20 garments on mannequins, furniture, lookbooks, sketches, prototypes, runways videos, and additional video art. Architectural elements from the exhibition are also highlighted on the third and fourth floors, while a recreation of the designer’s “Earth Work” sculpture takes over each of Barneys New York’s Madison Avenue windows.

Rick Owens’ “Subhuman Inhuman Superhuman” retrospective is open to the public through June 3.
