The ultimate auto accessory: a $750,000 key fob

If you’ve already bought your Bugatti or McLaren, but still have way too much cash cluttering up your wallet, we’ve got just the thing for you: the world’s most expensive and exclusive line of car keys.

Awain, a Finnish luxury goods company, has launched a new series of car keys for customers in Dubai – of course – aimed at those for whom “too much” is never enough.

Each key is made in limited editions by Awain’s watchmakers and jewellers, and each takes between 100 and 300 hours to produce. Each is signed and numbered for authenticity. The components of the car’s original key are contained within the fancy fob so it’ll open and start the vehicle.

The keys begin with the entry-level Quantum line, with 354 diamonds, and with a price tag equivalent in Canadian dollars to $73,400.

The mid-range Serenity has 1,250 diamonds totalling 20 carats, and it’s $133,300.

The showstopper is the Phantom, with more than 34 carats of diamonds, and a tag of $750,000.

And since you never want to be in the parking lot and notice that someone else has exactly the same diamond-encrusted key fob that you have, customers can select the jewels they want, how they’re placed, and whether they prefer 18- or 24-karat gold.

Jalmari Mattila, a former auto writer who now heads Awain, said that when he was writing, “I noticed that most luxury and supercar keys were fairly non-descript and made of plastic. They didn’t have the same craftsmanship or finesse as the cars they powered, which seemed like a shame.”

The keys are available for a variety of vehicles, including Rolls-Royce, Maserati, Lamborghini, Porsche, Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz.
