Kim Jones unveiled his first collection for Dior Homme SS19 in Paris, largely inspired by the Dior archive and Christian Dior himself. The overall approach is an interpretation of the codes known to the couture house – both the reality of Dior and the fantasy.

The collection references Christian Dior’s private life and his creative output – a dialogue between the duality of his personality. The feminine couture identity of the house of Dior has been translated into a more masculine silhouette, resulting in softer, lighter clothing with rounded shoulders and relaxed shapes and side buttoning. The atmosphere of the show reflected this, with the models walking down a winding runway decorated with white and pink flowers to a soundtrack of Underworld’s Born Slippy and Orbital’s Halycon, remixed by Diplo.

Artist KAWS was commissioned to reimagine the house’s famous bee emblem as well as the design of the set, creating a centerpiece sculpture composed of tens of thousands of black, white, and pink blooms. The show’s star-studded front row included fashion week staples from the likes of Luka Sabbat, Virgil Abloh, Blondey McCoy, A$AP Rocky, and Naomi Campbell. Jewelry designer Yoon Ambush made her Paris Catwalk debut, having designed a series of dog bone pieces to finish off looks, inspired by Christian Dior’s dog, Bobby. Designer Matthew Williams of Alyx also contributed by creating a special CD buckle.
