Macallan 72 Years Old, Limited Genesis Decanter

Macallan 72 Years Old, Limited Genesis Decanter

The Macallan recently ushered in a new age for the company with a $255 million USD distillery. Now it has announced a 72-year-old bottle of whisky as part of the celebration.
Nick Savage, a master distiller for Macallan had this to say: “For its seventy-two years of maturation, the deceptively light color hints that this is not an ordinary single malt. Reminiscent of a time gone by, it carries an exquisite balance of strong, sweet oak with the peaty spirit shaping its refined character. The whisky delivers surprise afters surprise as aromas of fruit follow distinctive hints of peat, all the way through to the back of the mouth where it is finished off with a lingering hint of rich fruit and oak. Although delicate throughout all aspects, it provides an intense experience which acknowledges the distinguished history of The Macallan.”
Only 600 individually numbered 700ml decanters will be available worldwide and the limited edition run is expected to retail for around $60,000 USD per decanter in August of this year according to Food & Wine. Lalique designed the Genesis Decanter to house the golden amber liquid with inspiration taken from the Distillery while Burgess Studio handcrafted the case from sourced timbers. In addition to select locations in the Americas, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa, exclusive airport retail stores and The Macallan Distillery and Visitor Experience will also sell the product.
