I’m Sobbing Over This Graduate's Social Media Tribute to Her Mom

For the last four years Twitter user @nanatat07 has participated in an annual selfie-taking tradition with her mom. And on May 23, after four years of high school, she celebrated her graduation, posting a final image that celebrated her educational milestone and served as a memorial for her mom.

In the now viral post on her Twitter, @nanatat07 compiled each of the selfies she had taken with her mom over the last four years. “Yesterday was my last day of high school,” she wrote. “For 4 years I’ve taken pictures with my mom on my first and last days of school. She wasn’t able to make it for the last one, but her strength motivated me to stay strong during this time. All of my hard work is for her!”

For each of their photos the newly graduated student and her mother had posed with a treat and a smile. And in her final traditional selfie @nanatat07 had made sure to include her mom again, and visited her mother’s gravestone where she brought along a drink from Starbucks to place on the stone.

Users on Twitter quickly reacted to the photo, and many expressed how emotional the tweet had made them. “I started tearing up when I saw the starbucks cup,” one user said. “She’s so proud of you and so am I even tho we don’t know each other,” another follower replied. Even Starbucks responded, writing: “Your mom is very proud of you. Congrats on all your accomplishments!”

@nanatat07 was apparently surprised by the response from social media, tweeting: “I wish I could respond to everyone but I haven’t stopped getting notifications! Thank you everyone for all of the kind words and support.” She later tweeted her shock again, saying: “Thank you for all of the kind words and support, it means a lot! The replies have me crying because I never noticed our close bond showed through like this and I’m so glad it did :).”
