The Next Version of the iPhone X Could Be Way Cheaper

If you’ve wanted to get your hands on an iPhone X but were deterred by the $999 price, you may soon have a chance to snag something similar for cheaper. Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman recently tweeted that an Apple device currently in the works will be like the iPhone X, only cheaper.

Bloomberg reported in February that Apple was going to announce a lower-cost iPhone X in the fall. Then, news that Apple was developing a new product called the N84 leaked, leading to speculations that it could be an ARM hybrid or a Macbook. However, Gurman has a history of accurately predicting Apple products, according to Pocket-lint, so chances are higher that it’s an iPhone.

How will Apple cut the costs, though? According to Gurman, the new phone will use an LCD display instead of an OLED, and it’ll also have an aluminium chassis (the outer frame) and a glass back, which allows it to be charged without a wire, instead of a stainless steel one. It may also have a gold color scheme, which was attempted for the iPhone X but then abandoned. Forbes‘s sources say this is part of a whole set of releases that will include four new iPhones.

In part because its high cost made it unattractive to customers, the iPhone X is likely to be discontinued by the end of the year, CNBC reported earlier this month. But it looks like we may still get to enjoy many of its features.
