2 Milly Considers Legal Action Against 'Fortnite'

2 Milly is considering legal action over Fortnite’s usage of his Milly rock dance. The move, which was introduced in season 5 as a premium emote called “Swipe It,” led to the rapper considering the move.

Speaking to CBS News, 2 Milly said “Everybody was just like, ‘Yo, your dance is in the game. They actually sell that particular move. It’s for purchase. That’s when I really was like … oh nah, this can’t go on too long.” This issue isn’t a new one, as Chance The Rapper brought up the idea of compensation from Fortnite back in June.

An issue could be that there’s no precedent for the issue at hand. As Merlyne Jean-Louis, business and entertainment lawyer, notes to CBS, “There’s a lot of case lawsuits surrounding the copyright of music. Lyrics. Sounds. There’s a full body of case law related to that. But regarding choreographic works, that does not exist.”

2 Milly went on to say “I don’t even want to bash them for all the millions, know what I am saying? It’s not really like that. I just feel like I have to protect what’s mine.”

In other news, Narcos is being made into a video game.

Fortnite should put the actual rap songs behind the dances that make so much money as Emotes. Black creatives created and popularized these dances but never monetized them. Imagine the money people are spending on these Emotes being shared with the artists that made them
