Nintendo Switch Has Already Outsold the GameCube

After previously reporting the Nintendo Switch already selling 20 million units, it has been confirmed that the console outsold its popular predecessor, the Nintendo GameCube. We initially broke news that the portable home console was the fastest-selling system ever.

It was also noted, thanks to its impressive line of titles holiday season last year, that Nintendo Switch sales drove a 500% profit jump. It was only a matter of time before it soared passed GameCube’s impressive 21.7 million units sold during its 5-year run, especially since it had already outsold the Wii U’s lifetime sales in less than a year. The only mountain it has to surpass in terms of sales is the uber-successful Wii console, which sold 101 million units in its lifetime.

“Consumer interest in Nintendo Switch is leading to sales of the system,” Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has stated. “This chart shows Nintendo Switch sell-through in the markets of Japan, the US, and Europe in and after April of this year. As you can see, sell-through dipped in April and May but then grew especially in the Europe and US markets, fueled by E3 in June and the dissemination of information surrounding that event and the release of major titles.”
