The Rare Norm a few months ago Share Tweet Pin Share I had the same thing happen to me. In my case I had been sick for about a week. I woke up one morning and there was a big lump protruding from my neck right under my ear lobe. I thought at first it was a swollen lymph from being sick, even with the unusual placement, so I figured I had better go to my doctor. He sends me to an ENT doctor. It was a lot of tests and appointments and by the time they told me what it was I had googled the hell out of everything and already knew what it was: a tumor in the parotid (salivary) gland and it was all growing around my facial nerve. In my case it really did show up overnight. It was kinda squishy and firm. Bonus: Want to stay up to date on our latest Rare Norm news ? I got the surgeon to take pictures during surgery of my face peeled back which was awesome. They make a cut from the top of your ear, along down the front and behind the tragus, down around the earlobe and down my neck into a crease that was natural in my neck. They had a plastic surgeon take fat from my belly and put it in my face. I’m still very numb in the whole area, part of my face and ear. It’s almost like I came back from the dentist about 45 minutes ago and the feeling is just starting to come back after the novocain, except it never does. I am past a year mark since surgery, so pretty sure the feeling I got back is about all I will get back. Luckily I had no other nerve damage that would have caused my face to be droopy on one side or even losing some taste.
