The Rare Norm a couple of months ago Share Tweet Pin Share I had the same thing happen to me. In my case I had been sick for about a week. I woke up one morning and there was a big lump protruding from my neck right under my ear lobe. I thought at first it was a swollen lymph from being sick, even with the unusual placement, so I figured I had better go to my doctor. He sends me to an ENT doctor. It was a lot of tests and appointments and by the time they told me what it was I had googled the hell out of everything and already knew what it was: a tumor in the parotid (salivary) gland and it was all growing around my facial nerve. In my case it really did show up overnight. It was kinda squishy and firm. I got the surgeon to take pictures during surgery of my face peeled back which was awesome. They make a cut from the top of your ear, along down the front and behind the tragus, down around the earlobe and down my neck into a crease that was natural in my neck. They had a plastic surgeon take fat from my belly and put it in my face. I’m still very numb in the whole area, part of my face and ear. It’s almost like I came back from the dentist about 45 minutes ago and the feeling is just starting to come back after the novocain, except it never does. I am past a year mark since surgery, so pretty sure the feeling I got back is about all I will get back. Luckily I had no other nerve damage that would have caused my face to be droopy on one side or even losing some taste.
