It would give prostitutes access to legal recourse, and regulation could help reduce risks, but depending on how many people would go into it willingly and at which price points, there may still be enough of an incentive to coerce people into the job. It isn’t like pot farming, with tons of people saying “I’d be a prostitute, if only it were legal!” Additionally, there is the problem with human traffickers taking people across borders. If it isn’t legal everywhere, people will continue to be sold into slavery.

That said, whether or not it makes a big impact, legalization would probably still be a positive change, and even if only a handful of people are saved from violence because they can finally go to the police, that is enough to make it worthwhile.
