Cleveland Indians Chief Wahoo-Less Uniforms

Well ahead of the 2019 MLB season, the Cleveland Indians recently revealed its new Chief Wahoo-less uniforms following a promise to stop using the mascot last January. The baseball team is now rolling out its long-term plan to phase out the character in a move to align with the league’s “commitment to building a culture of diversity and inclusion throughout the game.” Playing on the team’s long history in baseball, next season the Cleveland Indians’ uniforms will reference the look of the team’s ’40s era jerseys decorated by a classic “Block-C” logo. According to reports, the fact that the Cleveland Indians will host the 2019 MLB All-Star Game pushed for the removal, as Chief Wahoo would’ve been replaced by the All-Star Game logo anyways. It is interesting to note that although the Cleveland Indians won’t be wearing the Chief Wahoo motif, the mascot will not be gone forever as the team will maintain its trademark of the character for a limited run of merchandise.
