Gaming last week Share Tweet Pin Share Currently if you boot up Fortnite Battle Royale there’s a special limited-time Infinity Gauntlet mode. Pick up the Gauntlet and you become Thanos, the villain of Avengers: Infinity War for however long you can survive. In terms of surprise crossovers, it’s a pretty big one. Avengers: Infinity War is on its way to $2 billion worldwide at the box office, meaning everyone has watched it. Epic Games has, for the time being, reached the mountaintop.Given the high bar has been crossed with Avengers: Infinity War, there’s a whole host of properties that could find a temporary home in Fortnite Battle Royale or Save the World. (You forgot Save the World existed for a moment there, huh?) So, here are a few crossover ideas that would give Fortnite a little more shine. Power Rangers/Super SentaiThere’s already been a tease for the next season of Fortnite Battle Royale, with a mysterious giant footprint crushing one of the houses in the map. This seems to be pointing to something related to giant monsters. And if there are going to be giant monsters, than someone needs to fight them.I propose that newly-minted Power Rangers owner Hasbro and Epic Games team up to bring either direct translations of Power Rangers skins, or skins heavily inspired by the idea of multi-colored Super Sentai teams. And hey, Epic Games, more skins for players to unlock and purchase! You love that idea, no?If you want to get weird, Hasbro also owns G.I. Joe—which Fortnite is referencing with a few current Season 4 skins—and Transformers, so going with Power Rangers opens the doors for those properties. The CW DC UniverseMarvel has taken its shot with Thanos’ appearance, though that could expand in the future. But what about the Distinguished Competition? I’m skipping the movies because Warner Bros needs more time to get the DC Expanded Universe into tip-top shape. But there’s another DC-related series of shows that features a ton of characters that could be translated over to Fortnite Battle Royale.Between Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and Black Lightning, there are a metric ton of costumes and characters that could be brought over to Fortnite Battle Royale. More importantly, if Epic Games will wanted to go the extra mile, they could introduce a new island map based on a key part of Arrow’s origins: the island of Lian Yu that Oliver Queen found himself trapped on for five years. Lian Yu is such an undefined thing that Epic could even keep the map around as the much-needed second map for the game if it wanted to. Doctor WhoHey, there’s a new Doctor just around the corner. (We call this synergy.) One of the strengths of Doctor Who since the soft reboot by Russell T. Davies back in 2005 has been an increase in North American viewership. Unfortunately, Peter Capaldi’s time as the Doctor began a drop-off in terms of ratings all around. But there’s hope to be found! Doctor Who Series 11 with new lead Jodie Whittaker is coming this October and that puts it in line for a Fortnite crossover.Let the Tardis pop up in random locations around the map. Players who access the Tardis get access to the Sonic Screwdriver, which could be a build tool on steroids: let it build objects immediately, with no phase-in time. Not super overpowered, but very useful. Maybe even let it edit other player’s walls and ramps! That’d be damned cool. The only issue is figuring out where in the Battle Pass each of the various Doctor outfits would go. Who gets the coveted Level 100 spot? AtariAtari is still out there trying to claw its way back into the hearts and minds of the average consumer with hardware like the Atari VCS mini-console. The company could do itself some favors by working with one of the biggest mainstream gaming successes in some time. Young people play Fortnite Battle Royale, Atari, meaning you can take some of that brand power with a simple collaboration.Open up the coffers and let Epic Games pull from all of the classic Atari games for skins, backpack bling, pickaxes, and emotes. Perhaps an axe and costume that recalls Gauntlet, or a Football Robot outfit to reference Cyberball. Paperboy, Asteroids, Centipede, Tempest, Pong, Battlezone; the point is that Atari has a rich history for an 80’s Arcade-themed Season of Fortnite Battle Royale. You could even add a new Arcade location to the map for the Season. Shonen JumpIf you’ve never heard of Weekly Shonen Jump, it’s one of the largest manga anthologies in Japan, published every week in the region. It’s been the weekly home to some of the biggest manga properties, many of whom have been turned into equally major anime. For this crossover, we’d be drawing on the Western version, Shonen Jump, published monthly by Viz Media.Let’s be honest, you want costumes from many of the Shonen Jump properties, including Dragon Ball Z, One Piece, Bleach, Naruto, Hunter x Hunter, My Hero Academia, Gintama, Yu Yu Hakusho. Luffy’s straw hat, Goku’s signature gi, Naruto’s jumpsuit, and more could be yours for the unlocking. Why aim for a crossover with one anime, when you can crossover with all of the biggest anime? I leave this question to you, Epic Games. Honorable Mention: Battle RoyalePlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has already had a small crossover with Battle Royale, the novel and film adaptation that inspired Brendan “PlayerUnknown” Greene to create the mode in the first place. At this point, a Battle Royale crossover would just be Epic Games spitting in PUBG’s corn flakes. Part of me thinks it’s too mean, but the part of me that likes to watch celebrity feuds wants to see it happen. How would PUBG even react? This article may contain links to online retail stores.
