Monster Hunter: World Lagiacrus Footage Shows us What Could Have Been

There was a point when Capcom planned to include the great leviathan Lagiacrus in Monster Hunter: World, but the beastie was unfortunately cut before the final product shipped. Just how close were we to getting the big fellah in the final game, though? A little closer than you might realize.

During last weekend’s 2018 Monster Hunter Championship, Capcom shared some beta footage of Monster Hunter: World (thanks, Siliconera) that brings us up close and personal with the sea monster. Lagiacrus shows up around the video’s 37:30 mark, after the Hunter (a tiny packet of meat) has spent a significant amount of time poking at an Anjanath (a dinosaur with teeth like steak knives). When a mishap causes the Hunter and the hunted to wash down into a basin, Lagiacrus zips onto the scene and gives the intruders a good walloping. It’s pretty cool.

We learned Capcom initially planned for Lagiacrus to show up in Monster Hunter: Word at GDC 2018 last month, but the monster got the axe because of some technical issues behind programming its motions and animations. Part of Lagiacrus’ moveset went to Jyuratodus, and Capcom currently has no plans to re-instate Lagiacrus as DLC, or through any other means. At least we have some clear footage of Laggy wrecking house and hearth.

Monster Hunter: World doesn’t have Lagiacrus dwelling in its biomes, but there are still threats a-plenty to match muscle and wits against. Make sure to consult our tips, hints, and guides for Monster Hunter: World, including our guide for killing the diabolical Deviljho.
